Lens control error?
Submitted by andyjane59 on Wed, 09/09/2009 - 21:57
I have an S8100FD and am getting a problem. When powering on, the lens comes out, stops midway and retreats leaving the above message. This is intermittent but annoying. Any suggestions please.

I too had a problem with the "ZOOM ERROR!". I purchased my Finepix J32 on 2nd November 2009. Had a trip of a lifetime booked to Thailand, Sydney and Dubai. 2 weeks into my Sydney trip on 21st December the camera stopped working. I returned it to Fujifilm expecting a replacement camera only to be told that they will replace lens and I need to wait 15 working days (approx) before they get the part from Tokyo. I am absolutely disgusted and have written complaining about it. Obviously the zoom function is an issue with not just my model. I would understand if the camera was a year old (or even 6 months) and the malfunction was due to wear and tear but after taking around 100 photos - this is ridiculous. This completely ruined my holiday and I have taken the time to write to Fujifilm complaing about (1) their camera and (2) their warranty!!!

The whole lens unit needs replacing. I had the exact same issue on the exact same camera. Had to send mine back twice. Fuji repaired it under warranty, and the final paperwork came back saying "Lens replaced". You will also find that although the error may clear itself, and let you take shots, you will see the top corners of your shots are dark. This is because the internal lenses are out of alignment, and the corners are being cut off
If you have warranty, get it back to the shop or direct to fuji ASAP
Vote for my entry HERE, cos I need a new fuji camera
