Noo!
Submitted by Sam Bahado on Wed, 01/02/2012 - 00:23
So, last week I returned home to find out that I had uploaded the wrong image to the competition and not having a great deal of time to re shoot my original idea, I rushed home today to try and replace it. I got the shot but then when I went to upload, Noo! The contest was closed.
Here is what my original idea should have been like, and as I don't really shoot B&W/ monochrome, I'd really appreciate any criticism any of you all have to offer. I'm really interested in this style of shooting and I'd like to think I've started to get the basics of lighting with this shot..
Thanks all!

Whilst light is important in B&W, tones are even more so. There is an excellent description of the use of tones in this Photo Feature

The use of tones was how Ansel Adams managed to be such a master in the field of B&W photography, and using the colour of an image to convert your image is what 'masters' n this field still do. Chris Hodsgon has written a tutorial on how he converted his two images that are in the B&W Members' Gallery. Unfortunately the tutorial is not on here - but still useful. Link is on the Lion image in his Gallery

Be what you are, say what you feel, 'cos those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind.
