Thanks Margaret. I actually found him already on the leaf, so fortunately I didn't have to touch him! He moved so slowly that I had time to run indoors and grab my camera!

It's a mint humbug with horns! Beautifully clear, plenty of detail. I love snails, I collect them and feed them to the Blackbirds..tut tut!

Ooooh yes, he does look like a mint humbug Jen - although I wouldn't want to eat him (not even served with garlic, lol)

no image blur on this one then you would have to use a 10 minuite shutter speed. this type of snail is favourite food of the thrush. good pic

You've just got to love a snail who's a snappy dresser - could it be Brian from Magic Roundabout sporting this snazzy little 'apres slither' number? I like to think it might be....
Nice composition, spot on focus and exposure - but most of all I love the concept, which is surely where all good images are born

Wonderful photo Ali - I really hate snails - more for what they do to my beloved plants than anything else and this (I'm afraid) would have been stepped on pretty quick. but the detail you have got in this is excellent - even the striations on the shell. 1 star missing as i think that a closer crop would have removed some of the brown bits!!!
(Still trying to think of something for this comp.)

like the pic would suit the painfully slow shutter speed on my s1000fd in auto. Just giving some thought to my next pic to enter as moving cover a vast number of options

Thank you so much for all the great comments.
Derek - I decided not to crop it as I didn't want to lose any of the leaf.

Love the way you got the snail, fit theme and title. Lovely clear image, even the shell on it own would make a lovely macro shot with the lines and colours, for some other comp. Well done in thinking of it.

Great close up Ali - I don't usually go for the photos of snails, but this chap is quite attractive, especially on his little leaf mat. A very clear capture and a nice shiny shell - did you polish it?
