December and Chistmas time.

Yes! its that tine of year again, Christmas is a time for families getting together and a big feast of food, present giving, and peace and goodwill to all men, or, is it Bah! Humbug!  with indigestion and overdrawn in the bank?... Look on the bright side winter solstice has gone, days getting longer, summer holidays getting nearer, and last year was Christmas Horridus for us, Knee deep in snow, husband on crutchesi  running out of fuel etc etc.

I enjoyed making cards this year.

Deep and crisp and even , 2010.

Artic conditions.

Life in the freezer

I bet their bottoms were cold

Local butcher did a roaring trade.

December 2011

Damp and dull

With stormy skies

Bet their little web feet are cold,

A beautiful sunny day, so welcome in winter.

A trip to fetch are grandaughter home for the hols

Where is everybody going to.

Dangerous conditions

It was nice to see my grandaughter and to bring her back home.

Back home, admiring my Amarylis, 4 buds on the first stem and 6 on the second.

A close up.

Late dog walking up the canal

Creaking wood, hooting owls or was it a fox? scary.

Another walk early morning and a weak sun

A trip to Creswell Crags. In side the new visitor centre

We headed off for a walk round the lake first.

Over the bridge

To the meadow area,I must come back in spring

The lake is surounded by caves, which have evidence of being inhabited in the ice age

a peek through the tree

The Boathouse cave

A good path which is wheel chair accessable

Not a particular inviting home from home although it would have been to the ice age peoples.

Cave tours are weekends and school holidays.

It's an easy walk for the younger family members

Heading back

Nearing the visitor centre

My friend doe'snt mind her photo being taken, inside I love the wood and limestone, probably local stone.

Don't turn round, just get up and back away

Santa's helper and they were very helpful, all the staff were very pleasant and friendly

Artwork

The camera does not do it justice.

A close up detail

And this is what we came for, Creswell Colliery Band

They were terrific.

All those Christmas jingles that jangle your nerves in the shops sounded like heaven.

Our feet were tapping and they played brilliantly.

Steaming cup of coffee and a free mulled drink warmed us up. Lovely views out over the fields, note to myself, come back in summer.

We had only one or two good frosts but I noticed its seen off any straggling bedding plants.

Flowers from my hubby, they are lovely when everything in the garden is drab and dull

That was a good un, ice an inch thick

That didn't stop this father and two sons catching a nice Chub

I just had to snap this on my late afternoon walk. Thats what I call a grand Chrismassy entrance

I had a brill idea for displaying xmas cards, cover any large picture frame with xmas paper then stick them on with sellatape.

My decorations. The tree comes out of a large plastic bag fully decorated from last year although I do tittivate it up a little.

The vines of Boston Ivy twisted in a wreath, add pieces of conifer and trim with Holly or any foliage that you have in your garden.

I added artificial flowers and berries a lot better than those bought ones I think and don't cost a penny.

We still have to finish the shopping and the wrapping of presents etc etc

And if you still feel a bit down in the mouth after all that shopping, spending etc this Santa's helper will come round and make you wish you'd never uttered a Bah, Humbug. Only joking, she works in the local Wilko's shop full marks to her formaking it a jolly Christmas, hope you do too.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Well done Dee, lovely blog as usual. All the very best to you and yours.

Looks like a wet and windy few days, oh how I miss those cold frosty days we had last year, I'd much rather put another layer on than get soaked.

Thanks once again and a merry christmas

A nicely-paced blog with something for everyone--great wreath-making instructions, by the way.  I always enjoy your country walks, especially if I'm drinking my morning coffee at the same time.  The close-up details of the artwork was a nice touch; hands tell us a lot about the subject.

Thanks for posting.
