The Beautiful Peak District
It was my **th birthday last week and my lovely family took me away to the beautiful Peak District for a couple of days.
This is Bakewell, where we admired the beautiful old buildings, especially the church and the 13th Century bridge and where we ate some delicious Bakewell Tart.
This is the lovely 13th Century bridge at Bakewell. The children played 'Pooh Sticks' off the bridge.
The church tower was built in AD 920!
We also spent some time exploring the gorgeous village of Baslow. This is my son Adam at the foot of the 17th Century bridge over the river Derwent.
The next day we visited the Heights of Abraham at Matlock Bath. We had to go to the top via these cable-cars (I have a real fear of cable-cars!)
This was taken inside the Masson Cavern.
Here's Gemma leaping in front of the Victoria Prospect Tower. As you can see, it was a very foggy morning, so we didn't see the views from the top!!
This is Gemma and me, on our way back down in the cable-car. I was terrified and kept my eyes tight shut both ways - my knees were still visibly trembling when I climbed out of the car!
I absolutely loved the Peak District (although we only saw a very small part of it) and can't wait to go back and explore it some more.
Hope you enjoyed my little blog!

Hi Ali, not seen you around on here for ages.
Great to see you've been enjoying a few days holiday. I've never been there but friends who have tell me it's almost as good as the lake district
I remember seeing those little cable cars on TV recently on 'Great British Railway Journeys with Micheal Portillo'.

Great blog Ali. A place I love and one that is luckily only about 50 minutes from my place.
Looks like you all had fun. It is a great place and I hope you all get back one day soon.
By the way. I spotted your mistake. 21 does not have 'th' after it. It has 'st'.
Whoever said 'nothing is impossible' never tried to staple water to a tree!

Only a short few miles away from where I live, you should have said you were ciming up this part of england.
Bolsover castle is well worth a visit and Hardwick Hall, (about 20 mins away from Matlock)
Ladybower reservoir is a great day out too
Cresswell crags and The Major Oak, (supposedly home of Robin hood)
Clumber Park
And of course Chatsworth House and gardens is a must.

Lovely blog Ali. It looks as though you and the family had a very enjoyable time - apart from the cable car. I don't like my feet too high off the ground either.
Thanks for taking us along.
