Return to Cyprus after 40 years

I'm just back from a glorious week in beautiful Cyprus. I lived there when I was a baby - my Dad was posted there from 1967-1970. My first memories are of Cyprus. My beloved Dad passed away three years ago, so we took my Mum with us. She was amazed at how much Cyprus has changed in the 40 years since we lived there.
We found the bungalow where we first lived in Limassol:

This is Mum standing outside. The B&W photo above is of Dad and me taken in 1969 outside the same bungalow.
Here are some of the places we re-visited:
This is mum and me at the top of Troodos mountain:

This is the beautiful Aphrodite's Rock:

This is the amazing ampitheatre at Curium, near Episkopi:

This is just one of the many beautiful mozaics at Curium:

This is Mum and me at the Tombs of the Kings at Paphos:

The Tombs of the Kings was a fascinating place to visit (please Google it to find out more!). But it was 39 degrees and we almost melted in the heat!

On the days when we weren't exploring the island, we relaxed at our villa, just outside Paphos. This is the view from our balcony:

I took 320 photos in Cyprus, but that would make for an extremely long blog, so have just included a few to give you a flavour of our lovely week in Cyprus.
Thanks for taking the time to read - hope you enjoyed it!
Ali :-)

LOvely blog, I have been to all the places in the pics and it certainly brings back fond memories. Our children were small and we had a wonderful time there on both occasions. We stayed in Fig Tree Bay which was very pretty the other time we stayed in Protarus which was quaint, then.
I have a recollection of my son playing musical chairs with an older lady and he pulled the chair from under her when there were only one chair left. He was only five at the time but it was so funny. I wince when I think about it. His prize was a bottle of the local brandy, fine for taking paint off doors......
Fine blog thanks for taking me back to Cyprus.
Thanks very much dylanthermos.

Hi Ali
Well well well, here you are again!!! What a smashing photoblog. Steph and I have been to Cyprus 8 times!! Limassol once and seven to Paphos. We went back to see how much it had changed since I was stationed there in 1967-8. Believe it or not, we used to go skiing up Mt Troodos when it snowed, all dressed in Army gear playing at soldiers!! hehe.
The last time we went though, we were a little disappointed as to how much it had changed in the 4 years we had not been there. Still a nice place though. Friendly people and lots of places to go.
Thanks for posting the photoblog and thanks for your comment on my effort for the comp this month.
Cheers

Lovely photoblog Ali with wonderful photography, presentation and narrative. My husband and myself visited Paphos last month and you maybe interested in my 'Passport to Passport' photoblog. We went to the Tomb of the Kings and I would have loved to have descended and climbed the steps to have got that photo you got but I couldn't risk it being as I'd been on crutches for 4 months prior to the holiday and was hobbling around the archaeological site on a walking stick. Not an easy site to explore for the less mobile.Hubby took a similar shot like yours to show me and I took some from the open top looking down on the columns....Thanks for compiling and sharing.

An all round good blog. This is what blogs are all about. Just enough information, lovely pictures and a story, an interesting story. I really enjoyed your blog Ali, for just those few minutes I'd been to Cyprus.
Thanks,
Monty.

A lovely blog Ali. I do like that black and white photo of you and your dad, bet you treasure it; it's full of love. Cyprus is somewhere I've always wanted to go. Don't envy you that heat though, phew indeed!! Thanks for sharing, but if you have lots more photos then please consider sharing more in another blog, so at least if I can't go I can see from the comfort of my own home!!

Went to Cyprus last year in August, it was boiling. Went to top of Troodos a couple of times just to escape the heat. Great time exploring the archaeological sites. You've brought back the memories of a wonderful place, and I may have to return next year.

Great blog and very nice photos.
I stayed in Limosso on my only holiday to Cyprus. It is worth a visit. I was facinated by the archeological sites. We went in February and drove into the Troodos mountains and found a skiing competition which considering we had left the coast in shirt sleeves was a surprise, and a cold one.
I did not realise the size of the banana plantations in Cyprus.
A really remarkable place.
